Life is not measured by the breaths we take but the moments that take our breath away

We are creating this Blog to write about the Grand Adventure.  The Grand Adventure is …… a bicycle trip around the world.  Despite the picture above we are not crazy people. We were in our mid-50s and an average married couple, without children, when we started this crazy adventure. Ralf is the photograph and Jacky writes the blog.

Ralf has spent the majority of his working life driving18 wheelers – yes he was a transport driver, but now prefers two wheels to 18.

Jacky has spent the majority of her working life in administration and loves planning the adventures.

We enjoy travelling and cycling and decided that we should merge the two things we enjoy most and cycle around the world.

The Grand Adventure was a twenty-two month adventure starting in 2013. We have continued to travel on our bikes adding four more Adventures: South East Asia (2016) and Europe (2018).  A slight break in our overseas adventures occurred due to Covid (2020/2021). We stayed local and only did short one week trips. In 2024 we were back on the road. We went to Taiwan (2024). In 2025 we visited Japan. This was the country where we had our first major accident. Jacky came of her bike and broke her clavicle and ankle. We will be back on the road in 2026 so long as Jacky’s shoulder and ankle heal.
